How to hack into the hotel pay-per-view (PPV) movie channels (and how to prevent it)

Posted by Mayfair Tue, 11 Oct 2005 07:12:00 GMT

11 October 2005

There is an interesting article that details how to access hotel PPV systems so that people can watch movies and other channels for free. Although the risk of people knowing how to hack into the system is minimal, there is still the possibility that knowledge may become more widespread in the future, or worse still, that the method of hacking becomes simpler.

Questions raised after reading this article were:
  • “What are the PPV suppliers doing to prevent such practices?”
  • “What else can hackers do through the PPV network, some of which are connected to the hotel PMS?”

As providing a link to this site may encourage some people to participate in such illegal activities, please contact us should you wish to find out more information or be provided with the link to this article.

Firefox Internet web browser is better equipped in securing your IT systems from malicious attacks

Posted by Mayfair Mon, 19 Sep 2005 07:21:00 GMT

19 September 2005

It has been established by the IT community that using an inappropriately developed web browser could pose major security threats to your IT system including the loading of viruses, spyware, adware, trojans, and other malicious codes onto your computer without your knowledge. Malicious attacks on your IT system may result in, among other things, significant data loss, privacy loss, and financial loss. It is therefore in our best interest to inform you of the best available IT applications to use in order to minimise the possibilities of these attacks from occurring.

We are pleased to inform you that an alternative Internet web browser called Firefox, which has been designed with a comprehensive set of privacy tools to keep your online activity from disruption, is at your disposal.

Apart from the enhanced security features, Firefox also integrates other user-friendly solutions such as popup blocking, tabbed browsing (which is very useful), smarter searching, and live book marking.

Firefox, developed by the Mozilla team, has been voted “PC World Product of the Year” by PC World magazine and “Forbes Best of the Net” by Forbes magazine.

We encourage you to visit Firefox for more information.

Skype reduces telephone costs

Posted by Mayfair Mon, 12 Sep 2005 07:22:00 GMT

12 September 2005

Mayfair has taken the bold step of using a computer application called Skype for the majority of national and international telephone calls. Skype is a free voice-over-internet-protocol (or VoIP) that allows computer users to communicate for free with other computer users or to communicate with regular telephone users at heavily discounted prices.

Skype is very safe and very secure. The application automatically encrypts all communications before sending it through the internet and on arrival, everything is decrypted on-the-spot and presented as crystal clear speak that nobody can intercept.

Skype has dramatically reduced Mayfair’s telephone expenses and we suggest that you investigate this technology and see for yourself how Skype can reduce your telephone bills.

We encourage you to visit Skype for more information.
